‘On your Bike’ is a project run by Rural Health and Care Wales, funded by Cynnal y Cardi, which aims to encourage physical activity in young people by giving them the opportunity to use outdoor power-generating, static bikes to charge their mobile devices. The “On your Bike” project aims to highlight the health and wellbeing benefits of outdoor exercise, keeping active and addressing obesity whilst using renewable power generation.
The static bikes have been installed in 3 locations across Ceredigion:
- Victoria Gardens, Cardigan
- Parc yr Orsedd, Lampeter
- Cae Sgwar, Aberaeron
The static bikes will allow young people to generate energy to charge their mobiles phones, tablets and iPads – providing a link between outdoor recreation and the modern-day high-level engagement with technology. Physical activity not only has positive health benefits, it also improves well-being and happiness, whilst producing renewable energy, that benefits the environment.
